The film adaptation of the critically acclaimed novel by Mary McCarthy directed by Sidney Lumet. A private girl's school in 1933 is home to eight young women who are friends and members of the upper-class group at the school. They are about to graduate and embark on their own lives when the story begins. They are shown in a serialized format as they go through their many relationships and marriages, as well as their attempts to find meaningful work or meaning in their life, and as they experience both their highs and lows over this time period.
