When Mallory Doss, a member of the catering staff, realizes that her car has been taken, she informs Savannah lawyer Rick Magruder, who is at the party to celebrate his legal triumph in the defense of a cop killer. After a few drinks, Magruder offers to give her a ride home, a decision that leads into a one-night stand between the two of them. Rick soon discovers that her crazed father, Dixon, has re-entered her life and is threatening her once more. Rick rallies the resources of his law business behind Mallory, whom he has just met briefly, has Dixon arrested, and subpoenas the girl's abrasive ex-husband, Pete, to testify against the elderly gentleman. Dixon is committed to a mental institution. However, he manages to elude capture, putting the lives of everyone involved in the plot against him at danger.
