Arriving in Philadelphia on his way to San Francisco, Rabbi Avram is greeted by the city's mayor. He is deceived into paying for a trip to the west by con men, who ultimately abandon him and his things on a barren road. A stranger, Tommy, who happens to be a bank robber, takes him in and they have a lot of fun.
