In the story, which takes place in1875, Heath Ledger plays a British officer who quits his job when he finds out that his regiment is going to ship out to the Sudan to fight the Mahdi. His friends and fiancée send him four white feathers, which stand for being a coward. To clear his name, he pretends to be an Arab and saves the lives of the people who called him a coward.
