During World War II, a band of touring players performs a rendition of Shakespeare's King Lear in a small English rural theatre on a single fateful night. Despite the fact that bombs are dropping, sirens are blaring, and the curtain will be raised in an hour, the actor/manager Sir, who is playing King Lear, is nowhere to be seen. It is up to Sir and his dresser Norman to keep the show running, but will Sir arrive in time and, if so, will Sir be in the position to perform the following night? This wickedly amusing and profoundly emotional story of friendship and loyalty follows Sir as he reflects on his lifelong accomplishments and attempts to resolve his troubled ties with those under his care before the closing curtain.
