The Color Purple

An epic story about Celie, a forty-year-old African-American lady living in the South who endures great cruelty and hatred. Celie's life spirals downward after her violent father marries her off to the equally degrading "Mister" Albert Johnson, leaving Celie to seek company wherever she can. She perseveres, clinging to her hope of reuniting with her sister in Africa one day. Alice Walker's novel serves as the inspiration for this film adaptation.
