The Bravados

Frank O'Rourke's novel of the same name was the inspiration for the CinemaScope feature. For six months, Jim Douglas (Gregory Peck) has been chasing down the four criminals who murdered his wife. He travels into Rio Arriba, where four men who meet the description are in jail awaiting death, Alfonso Parral (Lee Van Cleef), Bill Zachary (Stephen Boyd), Ed Taylor (Albert Salmi), and Lujan (Henry Silva), so that he can witness the hanging. Only the hangman (Joe DeRita) is permitted to enter the town, so Jim is taken to Sheriff Eloy Sanchez's (Herbert Rudley) office to explain his situation. Because the village has never experienced an execution before, they have hired a man from outside the area to carry it out. Jim is allowed into the jail by the sheriff in order to observe the inmates. He has the visage of a hunter, they remark.
