Barcelona at the turn of the twentieth century has two cities coexisting. The first is bourgeois and modernist, whereas the second is dirty and scandalous. When Teresa Guitart, the young daughter of a wealthy family, goes missing, the news shocks the entire country. The police quickly have a suspect: Enriqueta Marti, commonly known as "The Barcelona Vampiress." Sebastia Comas, a journalist, chooses to delve into the Raval neighborhood's tangle of streets, brothels, and secrets in order to uncover the dark truth behind the Vampiress's kidnappings and grisly murders of children.
