Remy, a 50-something Montreal college professor, discovers that he is dying of liver cancer in this belated sequel to 'The Decline of the American Empire.' He makes the decision to meet with his friends and family in order to make atonement before he passes away. He begins by attempting to reconcile with his ex-wife Louise, who invites their estranged son Sebastian, a wealthy businessman who lives in London, to return home with her. Sebastian makes the impossible happen by utilizing his contacts and disrupting the entire Canadian system in every way possible in order to assist his father in fighting his terminal illness to the bitter end, while also attempting to reunite his former friends, Pierre, Alain, Dominique, Diane, and Claude in order to see their old friend prior to his passing.
