Victor Sandeman works for Brunel Global Securities as a senior partner. He is in serious financial trouble, which will be alleviated if the company's proposed $100 million merger goes through. Raymond Brunel, the company's owner, however, is opposed to the combination. Victor murders Raymond's grandfather, David Brunel, the company's heir apparent, in the hopes of outsmarting the useless David Brunel. Christine Sternwald, a probable witness, is the only flaw in the murder. Christine, a paralegal and aspiring lawyer, is just getting her life back together after a sexual attack three years ago. Victor is compelled to identify himself to Christine as Raymond Brunel after they meet shortly after the murder in a fender bender, Victor driving the late Raymond's car.
