In the position of British ambassador to the Court of Naples is Sir William Hamilton, a widower in his golden years. Emma, who comes to Naples with her mother for a visit, would not pass muster with the upper crust of London society, but she gets along swimmingly with the Queen. Emma enjoys her new role as Lady Hamilton, and everything seems to be going nicely until Lord Nelson pays her an unexpected visit. To begin with, Sir William resolves to allow his young wife to have her fling while maintaining his innocence.
