General Zod (Terence Stamp) and his henchmen, the Kryptonian villains, escape from deep space and threaten to destroy Earth just as Superman (Christopher Reeve) resolves to give up his superpowers in order to be with Lois Lane (Christopher Reeve) (Margot Kidder). Using footage shot by director Richard Donner before he was replaced, this alternate version of the picture features material that wasn't shown in the original 1980 release of the film.
