When the five puppies discover the Five Power Rings of Inspiron (alien artifacts abandoned on Earth 16 years ago), they all gain superpowers and join Captain Canine in his battle against the evil Darkon alien Commander Drex. Captain Canine hails from the planet Inspiron and serves as the commander of the space ship Megasis. He is the Commander Drex's mortal enemy. Megasis, in charge of protecting Princess Jorala and the Five Power Rings from Drex, hides the rings on the planet Earth and disguises herself as a German Shepherd, intending to stay on Earth in very deep cover. Adopted and renamed Captain Canine by aspiring young comic book artist Ian Shaeffer, he spends 16 happy years on Earth while Ian recounts his space adventures. But when the five Buddies discover the Power Rings and instantly gain superpowers, Captain Canine must train them quickly - because Commander Drex is returning to Earth, and he's determined to succeed this time.
