This historical drama takes place in Antwerp in 1521, during the early years of the Reformation in a Europe plagued by religious warfare. Falko Voeten, a twelve-year-old boy who happens to be the son of a printer, is the protagonist of the story.... After his father, Klaas Voeten, a printer of illegal literature, is apprehended by the Inquisition for printing a letter written by Maarten Luther, Falko unknowingly becomes embroiled in the investigation and search for the missing letter. The Inquisition has threatened Falko's father, but Marieke, a Catholic orphan girl from the underground sewers, has come to his help, and the two of them are racing against the clock to prevent his father from being hanged for heresy.
