He is a boy who comes from a normal family and gets a scholarship to go to a private school in South Africa. When Spud moves to a new place where other boys are called Gecko, Rambo, Rain Man, and Mad Dog. Spud has a hard time adapting to his new place. At some point along the way, Spud takes his first tentative steps on the way to becoming a man. People say the path could be a long way. She's the only one. He has parents who are crazy and a grandmother who is old. His dad is very anti-communist, and he is afraid that the family's housekeeper is running a shebeen from her room at the back of the house. In the supermarket, Spud's underwear is always on sale. His mom is a free spirit and a teen's worst nightmare.
