Space Battleship Yamato

In 2199, five years after the Gamilons launched their invasion of Earth, the globe has been devastated by extraterrestrial weapons. The survivors of humanity have retreated below to avoid the radioactive surface. Former pilot Susumu Kodai discovers a capsule from the planet Iscandar that describes a technology capable of removing radiation from the surface of the Earth. In an effort to save Earth, the Earth Defense Force rebuilds the battleship Yamato with a new sort of propulsion technology to make the 148,000 light-year journey to Iscandar. Within a year, the radiation will extinguish the rest of humanity.
