Shakedown
Jack Early (Howard Duff) is a photographer in "Shakedown" who will stop at nothing to reach the top of the success ladder. He gets a position with a large newspaper because of his determination, and it's not long until he makes a reputation for himself by charming a notorious crime leader, Nick Palmer (Brian Donlevy), into allowing himself to be photographed. Early chooses to bite the hand that feeds him, pitting Palmer against another mafia boss, Colton (Lawrence Tierney). He blackmails Colton into giving him with a consistent salary while secretly sidling up to Palmer's wife and romancing the paper's picture editor.
