This Canadian-produced comedy/drama, which takes place in Hamilton, Ontario in1954, is a lovely and - at times-funny story that grows more heartbreaking as the minutes pass. It is the fictional story of Ralph (Adam Butcher), a troubled ninth grader who is covertly living on his own while his widowed, ill mother stays in a coma. As a result of his frequent encounters with Father Fitzpatrick (Gordon Pinsent), the principal of his all-boys Catholic school, Ralph is considered something of a joke among his peers until he decides to pull off a miracle that will potentially save his mother's life, namely, winning the Boston Marathon. Assisting Ralph on his unlikely journey is a younger priest and former runner, Father Hibbert (Campbell Scott), whose cynicism is lifted by the boy's pure hope. Ralph applies himself to his unlikely mission, fighting off skeptics and receiving assistance along the way from a diverse group of allies and friends.
