Royal Opera House: Madama Butterfly

Soon after their marriage, Lieutenant Pinkerton abandons Cio-Cio-San, the young Japanese bride of the dashing American officer. Her love paradise is destroyed, and she is left alone. She lives in the hope that he will return one day. The ship Pinkerton arrives in the harbor three years later, and Cio-Cio-San and her young boy are there to greet it. The visit is eagerly anticipated, but Pinkerton and his American wife Kate are simply there to take the boy away and raise him in the United States. Cio-Cio-San says goodbye to her kid before taking her own life.
