Henry and Nicky are small town friends from blue collar backgrounds who have only a few months till they are drafted into World War II. Henry begins romancing Caddie Winger, a newcomer to town, assuming her to be wealthy. Nicky's mischief and irresponsibility cause the other two to become involved, putting their connection and the boys' friendship to the strain.
