Educated researcher When Sarah's mother unexpectedly passes away, she is left the owner of a small but popular Christian bookstore in the Bronx, despite being a doctorate student at Columbia University and her boyfriend being very married. Sarah must balance the demands of her loved but demanding family as she plans a funeral for the family matriarch, deals with the return of her estranged father, and wonders what to do with the bookstore. Sarah takes on her new obligations with the help of her only-in-New-York cast of characters, including her Eastern European neighbors, her feisty African aunties, and her no-nonsense ex-con co-worker.
