The mighty Heart Diamond can be found in a country known as "Diamond Domain," where it has served as the kingdom's source of energy and as a means of maintaining the Ore Country for ages. Carbink inhabit Diamond Domain, including its princess-the Jewel Pokémon, Diancie, who was responsible for the creation of the Heart Diamond-and her companions. Diancie has lost her ability to manage the Heart Diamond, and as a result, her country is descending into complete and total anarchy. Diancie appears to Ash and his companions one day and begs them to accompany her on a quest to locate the Life Pokémon, Xerneas, in order to restore the Heart Diamond. It is Yveltal, the Pokémon of Destruction, who stands in their way, as he did once when he took over the entire Kalos Region. The group is ambushed by Team Rocket, as well as the jewel thieves Marilyn Flame and Ninja Riot, as they make their way through a dangerous area.
