Pelle the Conqueror

The late nineteenth century. A boat carrying Swedish emigrants arrives on Bornholm, Denmark. Lasse and his son Pelle are among those who relocate to Denmark in search of work. They find work on a vast farm but are treated as the most deplorable form of life. Pelle begins speaking Danish but continues to face harassment as a foreigner. However, none of them wishes to abandon their hope of finding a life better than the one they left behind in Sweden.
