Provence widow Marie, who has two daughters, dreams of Manhattan literary agent Marty when she locks the door to her bedroom at night. The women have a striking resemblance. Marie is introduced to William, and he begins to pursue her as a potential suitor. Aaron, an accountant, becomes Marty's acquaintance and then her boyfriend after she first meets him. Both women share their fantasies with their lovers. Despite William's resentment, Aaron is tolerant. Even though William and Marie are in a relationship, Marie refuses to sleep with him. Marie and William go on vacation to Paris, and Marty wakes up to find an ashtray on her nightstand from the hotel. Is it possible that they are two different people?
