In Pu Songling's book Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio, there are a lot of short stories. One of Pu Songling's best is called "Painted Skin." She stars as Xiao Wei, who is a fox spirit who lives on human hearts to keep her young and beautiful. Zhou Xun plays her. As soon as General Wang Sheng (Chen Kun) rescues her from a group of bandits and brings her home, trouble starts to happen. The demon falls in love with the general.
