Stan and Ollie, who are homeless, beg for food from a kind old lady who gives them sandwiches. They overhear the lady's landlord telling her he's going to evict her because she can't pay her mortgage. They are unaware that the elderly lady is rehearsing for a play. Stan and Ollie decide to sell their car to help the elderly lady. A drunk places a wallet in Stan's pocket during the auction. Ollie accuses Stan of robbing the old lady, but when the truth is revealed, Stan retaliates against Ollie.
