Ocean of Pearls
AMRIT SINGH is frequently the focus of racial profiling since he is a Sikh man with a long beard and turban. After seeing his chances of becoming Chief of Surgery at a state-of-the-art transplant hospital diminish as a result of his appearance, Amrit decides to break with a family custom he has followed his entire life and cut his hair. Making this decision while keeping it hidden from his girlfriend and family in Toronto is merely the beginning of a long sequence of concessions Amrit will be forced to make as he interacts with hospital politics and health-care inequities. As a result of the death of a patient as a result of Amrit's compromises, he is forced to reconsider the importance of the religious traditions that he had previously dismissed.
