North Korea: A Day in the Life

It's not a coincidence that the cityscapes and patriotic anthems in this movie are a far cry from the desolate scenery in Seoul Train; the two films couldn't be more different. This propaganda film was created by Dutch filmmaker Pieter Fleury with the full permission and cooperation of the North Korean government. The film gives us a glimpse into a typical day in the life of one of the most mysterious societies in the world. The North Korean film bureau had a significant hand in the production of the documentary titled "A Day in the Life," which focuses on a typical North Korean family as they go about their day-to-day activities. The film is primarily dedicated to the pride in the North Korean nation of comrades and the glory of General Kim Jong Il. The purpose of the film is to celebrate North Korea's progress in the modern era. But does it? Viewers have the potential to interpret Fleury's film in a slightly different manner than the director had in mind due to the lack of narrative and the use of straight video.
