Edouard is the father of a huge family; his second wife, Jeanne, has just given birth to a child and has finally had enough of his infidelity. As their parents' marriage disintegrates, Edouard's girls face emotional shock waves of their own. Dina, who is in a relationship with the writer Paul, desires more from her daily existence, whilst Sidone, who is married to a fellow musician but is scared of performing in public, is in a relationship with a fellow musician but is terrified of performing in public. Seven years later, Edouard is dangerously ill; the family discusses their concerns, hopes, and anxieties.
