Young Violetta and her mother, Hannah, are a strange pair of friends. Violetta is 10 years old and lives with her grandmother. Her mother, Hannah, is an unpredictable photographer who relies on the kindness of others to pay for her clothes and other things. Violetta's life with her grandmother is turned upside down when her mother makes her stand in front of a mirror and act like a model. They quickly become a hit with the Paris art world in the 1970s.
