A actual story inspired this piece. In the 1930s, a petty criminal was confined to Alcatraz and was caught attempting to flee. He is placed in solitary confinement as a result of his punishment. The maximum stay is intended to be 19 days, but Henri spends years alone, cold, and in utter darkness, eventually becoming a lunatic and murderer. The plot revolves around a new lawyer who is attempting to argue that Alcatraz was to blame.
