Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence

In 1942, the British soldier Jack Celliers arrives in a Japanese detention camp. Yonoi, who has a strong conviction in discipline, honor, and glory, runs the camp. According to him, the allied detainees are cowards for choosing to surrender instead of committing suicide. One of the inmates, interpreter John Lawrence, attempts to convey the Japanese way of thought but is deemed a traitor.
