Machuca
Santiago, Chile's capital during President Salvador Allende's elected Marxist government. Father McEnroe's leftist views are supported by a program at the prestigious "collegio" (Catholic prep school) St. Patrick that allows some proletarian children free admission. Pedro Machuca is one of them, the slum-raised son of Gonzalo Infante's liberal-bourgeois housekeeper. Despite this, the new classmates become friends, paradoxically rejecting Gonzalo's adoption by Pedro's slum family and gang. However, grownups sabotage that as well, most notably when General Pinochet's coup deposed Allende and supporters such as McEnroe.
