Lost in White is set in the north-east of China, where two bodies have been discovered beneath the ice of a frozen lake, their remains rendered unidentifiable by carnivorous fish but still bearing the mark of being dragged with an ice hook. Captain Zhou (Tony Leung Ka Fai), a dedicated cop who is dragging along his adolescent daughter Xinyi, is in charge of the investigation (Zhou Dongyu). Soon after, he is joined by Wang Hao (Tong Dawei), a young Shanghai detective investigating a missing person case that has led him to the same village where the murders occurred. The two cases are linked: the missing person and the two victims were part of a quartet of businessmen who opened a refinery in the region ten years ago and disposed of chemical waste in an unethical manner, poisoning the waters and resulting in malformed babies in the following decade. Is the missing businessman the assassin, the next victim, or just a red herring?
