A plane transporting a bunch of schoolboys crashes on a lonely island during a nuclear war. The boys are left to fend for themselves because no adult survivors. They work together at first, but as they split into two camps, one commanded by the pragmatic Ralph and the other by the militaristic Jack, their society comes apart, resulting in a profound analysis of human nature and a horrifying finale.
