This book of four folk tales takes its title from an old Japanese phrase that translates as "ghost story." Unfortunate circumstances lead to the marriage of a penniless samurai for financial gain. Despite Yuki the Snow Maiden's efforts, a guy who has become caught in a blizzard must pay the price. Hoichi, a blind musician, is compelled to perform for a ghostly audience. The story of a samurai who sees another warrior's reflection in his teacup is told by an author.
