Ithaca

Homer Macauley, a 14-year-old from a little village in California's San Joaquin Valley, is determined to be the best and quickest bicycle telegraph messenger the world has ever seen. He sets out to prove it. The war has taken his older brother away, leaving Homer to care for his widowed mother, older sister, and Ulysses, who is just four years old at the time of the tragedy. As spring gives way to summer in1942, Homer Macauley visits the people of Ithaca to bring them messages of love and hope while also inflicting agony... and death... on them. A message will be delivered to Homer Macauley that will alter his life forever, transforming him from a boy into an adult. ITHACA, based on the novel The Human Comedy by Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist William Saroyan, is the iconic wartime story of the American home front. In it, the author explores the euphoria of youth, the beauty of existence, the pain of death, and the modesty and absolute goodness that exists in each and every one of us as we get older.
