In 2016, the sun burnt the entire globe, transforming it into a barren wasteland. Humans that have survived are either inventive or vicious, and occasionally both. Marie, her younger sister Leonie, and best friend Phillip are in a car on their way to the mountains, where there is rumor of water. They meet Tom, a first-rate mechanic, along the route.
