Revolt and turmoil break out in France in the near future. Philippe Muphand, a right-wing politician, is about to seize power when Caroline, his lady friend, walks out and declares she would sleep with the first fool she sees. Serge Laine, a professor and the prize-winning author of "Le voyage qui ne finit pas," is the idiot. He is en route to Barcelona for a second honeymoon with his wife and to give a lecture at the university there. Serge is seduced by Caroline, and he soon gives up his wife, kids, job, and integrity in favor of Caroline, Jack London's romanticism, and murder.
