Hamlet in the Golden Vale
A group of actors arrives at a castle deep in the heart of the Irish countryside and immediately sets the plot of Shakespeare's Hamlet in motion. As Prince Hamlet encounters the spirit of his father and seeks vengeance on the wicked Claudius, his uncle and newly chosen king, the lives of the performers and their characters get intertwined with the plot of the play. The quest of vengeance by Hamlet scorches the lives of everyone who lives within the castle walls, exposing the numerous paradoxes and ambiguities that exist within human existence. At the conclusion of the play, seven days have elapsed, and the performers emerge from the castle, leaving the castle and its inhabitants behind.
