Freedom

One hundred years apart, two men want to be free. As a slave on the Monroe Plantation near Richmond in Virginia in 1856 Samuel Woodward and his family break out. The Underground Railroad is a secret network of people who help the family get to Canada from the United States. They are called "ordinary people." Plimpton, a notorious slave hunter, is always after them. Samuel is being hunted like a dog and haunted by the unimaginable pain he and his ancestors have been through. He has to choose between revenge and freedom. In1748, John Newton, the captain of a slave trader, sails from Africa with a cargo of slaves, bound for the United States, 100 years before. It is Samuel's great grandfather who is on board. His survival is linked to the fate of Captain Newton. When Newton goes on a voyage, it changes his life for the rest of his life. He leaves behind a legacy that will inspire Samuel and millions of other people for generations to come.
