A well-known novelist named Brendan Cobbs, played by Jon Paul Gates, is having trouble getting his ideas down on paper. His agent places him in a secluded cottage in the middle of nowhere in rural England, where the people are unfriendly and he has no way to communicate with the outside world. This is where he has his first contact with Alfred, a child-sized doll that, when Brendan isn't watching him, has the ability to magically come to life.
