It's not easy for Herb to get his life together. He's lost his welfare, can't get a job, can't talk to his son, has a neighbor who won't stop talking, and eats mostly cheap beer and mushy peas. His life isn't worth living, and he knows. This is what happened: He learned about how better off Danish prisoners are from a TV report. They have jobs, easy access to health care, and even an HDTV. Because they live in hotels so much, they're almost living in them all the time He says good-bye to his squalid apartment and flees to Denmark on a cargo ship. He arrives in a small town with everything he needs, including a bank to rob, so he can get money. Prison may be the only way he can have a good life, but when he meets a friendly local barmaid and a dog that won't leave him alone, he starts to think that prison isn't the only way for him to be happy.
