The true story of Carolyn Raeburn's daughter, who graduated from high school at the age of 16, is told in the book. During the summer before Laura was to start college, an event happened that changed everything for her and her family. In the country, Laura went to a boarding ranch so that she could learn how to ride a horse. A strange and scary woman took over Laura's mind there. When the woman's daughter died, she was trained to be the woman's new daughter instead. For the next five years, Carolyn lost her sanity and spent more than half a million dollars trying to get her daughter back, but she was worth it in the end.
