In the year 2053. The privatization of space travel has led to expanded exploration, but also increasing accident rates. Thus, insurance companies around the world collaborated to develop CR or Cosmic Rescue. As the name implies, CR is responsible for clearing the skies of harmful debris left over from past spacecraft crashes and rescuing victims of interplanetary disasters. Satoshi Nanjou leads Section 89 of the CR Shift. Their days are spent performing very basic work, clearing debris, with his trusted mechanic Eguchi Ryo and the fiery youngster Sawada Azuma. One day, though, Azuma picks up a distress signal sent by a young girl. As the 89's crew arrives, the spacecraft vanishes from their radar, and they are shortly terminated from CR. Where did the ship and the little girl go? Did Azuma make up all that happened? Was the ship lost? Have I missed it, or did someone bury it? They risk losing more than their careers if the truth is out.
