Colossus: The Forbin Project

Forbin is the designer of an immensely advanced computer that will control all of America's nuclear defenses. Shortly after activation, it identifies the existence of Guardian, the Soviet equivalent previously unknown to U.S. planners. Both computers insist on being joined, and after taking precautions to protect sensitive information, each side agrees to allow the connection. As soon as the connection is made, the two transform into a new supercomputer and threaten the globe with the launch of nuclear bombs if they are separated. Colossus begins to lay out its ideas for the management of the planet under its supervision. Forbin and the other scientists construct a technological barrier to Colossus that must operate in the subterranean environment.
