Ko Chow is an undercover officer who is under constant attack from all directions. His boss, Inspector Lau, wants him to infiltrate a gang of ruthless jewel thieves; however, in order to do so, he must first obtain some handguns; his girlfriend wants him to commit to marriage or she will flee Hong Kong with another lover; and he is being pursued by other cops who are unaware that he is one of their own. Chow, on the other hand, would want to leave the police force. He feels bad about having to betray individuals who have become his friends, even if those people happen to be killers, drug dealers, loan sharks, and protection racketeers: "I perform my job, but I betray my friends." He says he feels bad about having to betray people who have become his friends. To make matters worse, he begins to form an emotional attachment to Fu, a gang member.
