This Christmas, Lucy Toomey, a partner at New York City's most prestigious corporate law firm, will finally get to enjoy the fruits of her labor. Lucy goes to Nilson's Bay, Wisconsin, to attend Alice's burial and administer her inheritance when her older sister with special needs unexpectedly dies. Even though Lucy dreads returning to her childhood home, she is heartbroken that she was unable to answer her sister's final phone call. Returning home, Lucy runs into her old high school boyfriend and Alice's former attorney, Peter, who explains to her the peculiar conditions of Alice's will, which specify that Lucy must dwell in the family home for 30 days during the holidays in order to receive it.
