The Emperor (Chang Chen) and his sister, the Princess, attempt to flee the royal castle in search of a more free-spirited existence (Faye Wong). The Princess, dressed as a man, manages to evade capture by the royal guards, who return him to his enraged mother. Meanwhile, King Bully (Tony Leung) has returned to his hometown to run a restaurant with his tomboy sister Phoenix, despite the fact that he is highly disliked for his bullying habits (Vicki Zhao). A tight friendship exists between the two of them. King Bully, on the other hand, thinks he can read his sister's thoughts. At first, King Bully is enamored with the Princess when she arrives in town, but he mistakenly assumes that his attraction to her is a result of his empathy for Phoenix.
