Brian, an endearing outlier, lives alone in a Welsh valley, inventing bizarre contraptions that rarely work. Brian has an epiphany after discovering a discarded mannequin head. After three days, a washing machine, and various spare parts, he's created Charles, an artificially intelligent robot that learns English from a dictionary and makes a charming, cheeky companion. Charles, on the other hand, quickly gains independence. Charles yearns for adventure, drawn to the wider world — or whatever lies beyond the cottage where Brian has hidden him away.
